Conversations on Sound and Power
2021-present
Originally commissioned by March: a journal of art and strategy, this ongoing series of dialogues with artists, activists, and artists examines the histories and current concerns of the politics of sound.
Beginning in December 2021 and continuing to the present, Conversations on Sound and Power gathers dialogic exchanges from a wide variety of contemporary artists, scholars, and activists concerned with the sonic dimensions of social life and sound’s role in the structuring and transformation of political life. As an ongoing social project “Conversations on Sound and Power” documents the insights and thinking of partitioners who have dedicated themselves to the deep tensions that make acoustic worlding so impactful. The conversations reflect our commitment to treating ideas and methodologies as temporarily stewarded rather than privately held intellectual property, which includes an open forum for shaping the activist and theoretical spaces where new histories, concepts, practices, and conviviality can flourish and be transmitted to others.
